Kees Maat is universitair hoofddocent en leidt de sectie Stedelijke en Regionale Ontwikkeling van het Onderzoeksinstituut OTB van de TU Delft. Tevens is hij verbonden aan de sectie Transport en Logistiek van de Faculteit Techniek, Bestuur en Management (TBM). Hij studeerde sociale geografie aan de Universiteit Utrecht en promoveerde aan de TU Delft. Voorheen heeft hij gewerkt bij de provincie Zuid-Holland en bij Inro-TNO in Delft. Zijn onderzoek heeft betrekking op de ontwikkeling van de stedelijke omgeving, bereikbaarheid en mobiliteit, in het bijzonder de relatie hiertussen. Hij doceert verschillende vakken op het terrein van ruimte en vervoer bij de faculteit TBM en begeleidt studenten en promovendi.
